"It's now game week, and today is like a normal Monday for us," explained Hilltopper head coach Willie Taggart. "We're going to come out and go over a lot of different things, including where everyone is going to line up for pregame. We've got some new coaches and a lot of young guys, so they need to know how we do things on game day."
While game planning for Kentucky has taken place throughout camp, those efforts will ramp up starting this weekend.
"We've already introduced a lot of stuff to our guys," said Taggart. "But we'll go over some more stuff for UK, then get in and watch some film."
Successful Camp
With three grueling weeks of training camp now behind the Toppers, Taggart was pleased with what was accomplished since the start of practice back on Aug. 6. "I felt like we got better as a football team as camp went along. I thought the consistency of our offense really started to show, and that's a good feeling as you're getting ready for the first game. And the defense really understands that they have to play with a lot of energy. When they fly around and have fun, they can really do some good things."
Remember The Toppers
Earlier this week, legendary Virginia high school coach Herman Boone - who became a household name when he was portrayed by Denzel Washington in the 2000 film Remember the Titans - was in Bowling Green and spoke to the Hilltoppers following practice. "It was awesome. He told our guys to go out there and believe," said Taggart. "You should have seen our guys. They were wide-eyed and sitting up straight. I think they really enjoyed it, and got a great message from Coach Boone."
Family Fun Day Later Today
This afternoon gives Hilltopper fans a chance to get up close and personal with players and coaches at the third-annual Family Fun Day at Houchens-Smith Stadium. This free event runs from 4-6 p.m. (CDT) and will feature an autograph session, fun zone, a live radio remote and the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Contest.
