BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Suzzette Van-Lare is entering her first season as a member of WKU's track & field team. Van-Lare, a sophomore, transferred to WKU after her freshman year at Kennesaw State (Georgia). Van-Lare competes in the High Jump, Triple Jump, Long Jump where her WKU personal bests are 1.65 m, 5.55 m and 12.03 m respectively. Van-Lare looks to improve on these distances during her first outdoor campaign at WKU.
Over the two weeks, WKUSports.com will be showcasing different members of the men's and women's track & field teams as they near the beginning of their outdoor season. Both the men and women are looking to repeat as Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Champions May 13-15 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.

Q: What is your favorite activity outside of your sport?
A:Writing, Singing, Playing the Piano
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Anything that contains SHRIMP!
Q: What books have you read lately?
A: The Alchemist
Q: What is your favorite spring break destination?
A: My bed...I don't like to go anywhere during spring break, I use it as my team to rest and catch up with school.
Q: What was your favorite cartoon character when you were a child?
A: Hey Arnold! Dexter's Laboratory...Cow and Chicken
Q: What is your favorite TV show?
A: Forensic Files, Masterminds, The Game, Keeping up with the Kardashians
Q: If you could have dinner with any person in history, who would it be and why?
A: Hard question. I can think of many, but I'll go with Harriet Tubman. Her story is still powerful after hundreds of years...I would be amazing to actually know someone that selflessly risked her life over and over again because she genuinely cared about others.
Q: If you could have dinner with any person no longer living, who would it be and why?
A: My paternal grandparents, and maternal grandfather. I've met the all, but never really got to know them. I feel as if I could learn a lot from them.
Q: What are your plans after your playing days are over here at WKU?
A: I want to compete in the African Championships at least once before I stop running. After I'm done with track, I'll be off to Medical School.
Q: What is your proudest moment in sports?
A: My indoor conference meet my freshman year. I had a tough season and didn't have high expectations coming into conference...but I tried to make the best of it when it was time to compete and changed my mindset. I ended up setting my personal record by 25 inches in the long jump, and 12 inches in the triple jump. That's when I learned the huge role your mind plays in your performance.
Q: Who is your all time favorite sports personality?
A: Serena Williams...She's more than just an athlete! She's a business woman and a great person.
Q: Who is your favorite singer or music group?
A: My favorite musicians are Beyonce, Jazmine Sullivan, Lauryn Hill, India Arie and many more
Q: What is the best movie you have ever seen?
A: Haha...Lion King will always be my favorite movie.
Q: Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
A: The most influential people in my life are my parents. Whenever I make a decision, I consider how they would feel about it. I have a lot of internal motivation but making my parents proud is important to me as well. That desire influences me to make the right decisions.
