BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University baseball team held its preseason media day Thursday in preparation for the start of the 2011 season.
Senior Matt Rice, redshirt junior Rye Davis and junior Kes Carter along with head coach Chris Finwood were on-hand to answer questions and talk about the team.
WKU finished with an overall record of 35-23 and 16-14 in the Sun Belt in 2010 and will return 19 letterwinners from that squad. Highlighting the returners includes Rice, Davis and Carter who were all named first-team All-Sun Belt following the season.
Thirteen newcomers appear on the roster in 2011 for the Hilltoppers, including junior-college transfers Ivan Hartle and Ryan Hutchison who were members of the Iowa Western CC team that captured the 2010 NJCAA World Series.
The Hilltoppers open the season next Friday, Feb. 18, against Bowling Green State at Nick Denes Field at 3 p.m. The weekend series continues with a 2 p.m. matchup Saturday and the series finale at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Following the opening series, WKU plays its next 10 games on the road, including non-conference tournaments in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Charleston, S.C.
