BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Western Kentucky University swimming coach Bruce Marchionda was recognized by the American Swimming Coaches Association as a Coach of Excellence for 2010, the organization announced last month.
Each year, the ASCA honors the coaches who guide a swimmer(s) to a top-8 finish at a USA Swimming national-level meet or a USA collegiate championship. The Award of Excellence listing for 2010 was based on top-8 finishes at one of the following meets: 2010 NCAA Championships, 2010 NAIA Championships, 2010 USA Swimming Open Water Championships, 2010 USA Swimming National Championships and 2010 USA Swimming Short Course National Championships.
The WKU swimming and diving teams departed Wednesday for a winter training trip to Florida, which includes a dual meet against Indian River State College on Jan. 15.
