Bowling Green, Ky. - Brian Edelen is one of five talented seniors on the WKU Hilltopper baseball team and is entering his second season on the Hill.
Edelen made 11 starts and nine relief appearances for the Hilltoppers in his first season, logging 52-1/3 innings in 2010. He went 4-2 on the year with a 3.78 ERA while holding opponents to a .278 batting average. Lefties hit just .206 (13-for-63) against the right-hander. Edelen totaled 31 strikeouts on the year. He worked a season-high six innings against Vanderbilt on March 16, shutting out the Commodores on three hits with three strikeouts. Edelen earned a win in relief in his first career appearance, working two-thirds of an inning and striking out one against Texas State on Feb. 27.
He is a versatile player who will join 19 other returners on the 2011 squad, looking to build on his individual success as a redshirt junior and turn it into team success a year later.
Over the next month, WKUSports.com will be highlighting different members of the 2011 WKU Hilltopper baseball team as they prepare to open the regular season Feb. 18 against Bowling Green State at Nick Denes Field. The Hilltoppers finished the 2010 season with a 35-23 record and a sixth-place finish in the Sun Belt Conference.
