Bowling Green, Ky. - Tanner Perkins is one of many underclassmen on the WKU Hilltopper baseball team and is entering his second season on the hill.
As a freshman in 2010, Perkins made 16 appearances and 12 starts, finishing with three wins. He spent the majority of the season as a member of the weekend rotation for the Hilltoppers, posting 43 strikeouts in 56.1 innings of work. Perkins finished the year with a 5.27 ERA and issued only 11 walks. In his first career start, he pitched six shutout innings against Kent State, allowing just four hits, striking out six and walking none. His other wins came against Illinois-Chicago and ULM.
He is a versatile player who will join 19 other returners on the 2011 squad, looking to build on his individual success as a sophomore and turn it into team success a year later.
Over the next month, WKUSports.com will be highlighting different members of the 2011 WKU Hilltopper baseball team as they prepare to open the regular season Feb. 18 against Bowling Green State at Nick Denes Field. The Hilltoppers finished the 2010 season with a 35-23 record and a sixth-place finish in the Sun Belt Conference.
