Bowling Green, Ky. -- Sarah Rogers is one of many talented underclassmen on the WKU Lady Topper volleyball team and is entering her second season on the Hill in 2010.
As a freshman in 2009, she finished the season with a team best 478 digs, ranking her 10th all-time for a single season in WKU volleyball history. Her average of 3.79 digs per set ranked her seventh in the Sun Belt Conference. Rogers also ranked third on the team with 38 service aces and 69 assists.
She is a versatile player who will join seven other returners on the 2010 squad, looking to build on her individual success as a freshman and turn it into team success a year later.
Each weekday for the next two weeks, WKUSports.com will be highlighting a different member of the 2010 WKU Lady Topper volleyball team as they prepare to open the regular season on August 27 at Purdue. The Lady Toppers finished the 2009 season with a 25-9 overall record and a second-place finish in the Sun Belt Eastern Division.
Hilltopper Spotlight: Sarah Rogers, Sophomore, Defensive Specialist
Q: What is your favorite activity outside your current sport?
A: Spending time with friends and family, who are the people that mean the most to me because during volleyball season, you don't get as much time to do so.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Ice cream from Baskin Robbins or a shake from Steak'n'Shake
Q: What is your favorite spring break destination?
A: I would have to say a cruise because I went on one my senior year in high school and has such a blast- I want to go on another one!
Q: What was your favorite cartoon character when you were a child?
A: I loved Barney, if you consider that a cartoon. I watched him and his friend's everyday as a youngster.
Q: What is your favorite TV show?
A: The Next Food Network Star or basically anything on the food network.
Q: If you could have dinner with any person in history, who would it be and why?
A: I would choose Jesus, because it's Jesus! Who wouldn't want to have dinner with him?
Q: If you could have dinner with any person no longer living, who would it be and why?
A: My great grandfather Peter Wonder. It's my Nana's Dad. I would want to have dinner with him because my Nana has always been such a great influence in my life and I would like to see what her Dad was like because I heard he was a great man.
Q: What are your plans after your playing days are over here at WKU?
A: I want to get my masters' as a nurse practitioner and hope to get married and start a family. I hope to still play volleyball here and there too!
Q: What is your proudest moment in sports?
A: When my club volleyball team (KIVA) won the junior Olympic national title when I was 15 years old.
Q: Who is your favorite singer or music group?
A: I like 3Oh3! a lot but my favorites tend to change once I get hooked on songs for a couple weeks.
Q: What is the best movie you have ever seen?
A: Shawshank Redemption. I love Morgan Freeman and the plot and suspense was fabulous!
Q: Who is the most influential person in your life and why?
A: My parents because they have taught me everything I know about life and how to live it the right way. They have always been there for me no matter what and I will go to them for anything.
