BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University volleyball coaching staff announced this week the recipients of the program's two endowed scholarships. Senior Kelly Potts received the Lee Murray Scholarship while classmate Emily Teegarden was named recipient of the Dr. Kela Fee Memorial Scholarship.
"We feel very blessed to have two families that think enough of our volleyball program here at WKU and the way we do things to donate scholarships first and foremost, but to want their names associated with our program and how we do things, we are very, very grateful to both of them for that," WKU coach Travis Hudson said.
Both Potts and Teegarden are three-year letterwinners as members of the Lady Topper volleyball team and have played in a combined 256 career matches during their tenure at WKU.
"(Potts and Teegarden) were both chosen because they are both incredibly high quality kids," Hudson said. "They have both been great players in our program but along the way, they've handled themselves with great class and represented WKU in an admirable fashion. One of the things that we want to do every year with the recipients is not only choose people who represent our program well but who will also represent those families very, very well and Kelly and Emily certainly do that."
2010 marks the second year in existence for both scholarships.
The Lady Toppers return to action this weekend, hosting Troy on Friday and South Alabama on Saturday at E.A. Diddle Arena. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
