BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Western Kentucky University volleyball coach Travis Hudson announced the signing of Heather Boyan to a National Letter of Intent this week. A Munster, Indiana native, Boyan will join the Lady Toppers on the Hill beginning with the 2011 season.
"We are extremely excited to add Heather to our roster," Hudson said. "We've had a long tradition of excellent middle hitters here and with the athleticism and explosiveness that she posses, I think she will fit that mold very, very well moving forward."
Boyan is a middle hitter from Munster High School who led her team to their third straight Sectional Championship this season. The 6-1 senior tallied 15 kills and 13 blocks in Munster's five-set win over Lake Central in October.
During her high school career, Boyan has been a three-year starter on varsity and earned Scholar Athlete honors all four seasons. As a senior, she served as team captain and was named most valuable player. Boyan also received first team all-conference, academic all-conference and academic all-state honorable mention honors.
On the court, Boyan recorded 410 kills along with 101 digs and 88 aces.
"When I made my first visit to Western Kentucky University, I knew it was the perfect fit for me," Boyan said. "They play great, competitive volleyball, and the whole team is like a family. I was so excited to sign on (Nov. 10) and finally make things official. I absolutely can't wait to join the team next year and begin my career as a Lady Topper."
Boyan looks to join a long tradition of middle hitters at WKU as the Lady Toppers have had an all-conference middle hitter 14 times in the last 13 years.
