BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - This weekend, the WKU volleyball team will host Florida International and Florida Atlantic in their final home series of the regular season. WKU, who holds a 21-7 overall record and a 10-3 record in the Sun Belt, will take on SBC leader FIU on Friday night at 7 p.m. FIU is 24-2 this season and is perfect in the SBC with a 14-0 record. On Saturday prior to the Homecoming football game, the Lady Toppers will battle FAU at 1 p.m. FAU is 4-10 this season in the SBC and 6-17 overall. Live stats will be available at www.wkusports.com.
NOTING THE LADY TOPPERS
• WKU will return home this weekend for meetings with Florida International and Florida Atlantic. On Friday night, WKU and
Florida International will play at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, WKU and Florida Atlantic will hit the court for a 1 p.m. match-up.
• WKU holds a 19-7 advantage over Florida International but fell to the Golden Panthers in four sets earlier this season. Last
season, the two teams split with WKU winning in Miami and losing in Bowling Green. WKU is 8-0 all-time against Florida
Atlantic and has already picked up one win over the Owls this season. Earlier this season in Boca Raton, Fla., WKU swept the
Owls. The Lady Toppers have swept the Owls in the two teams last six meetings.
• Following this weekend’s match-ups, the Lady Toppers will travel to Alabama for their final regular season matches of the season.
On Friday, Nov. 13, WKU will face Troy and then will close out the season on Saturday with a meeting against South Alabama.
Following the Alabama trip, WKU will return home to host the 2009 Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Championships on Nov. 19-21
at E.A. Diddle Arena.
• WKU freshman Sarah Rogers was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 31. During the meetings
with ULM, Louisiana-Lafayette and New Orleans she paced WKU defensively recording double-digit kills in all three of the Lady
Toppers' matches. She finished the weekend leading the Lady Toppers in digs with 45, all in just 11 sets. The libero also posted four
aces during the weekend and two assists. Rogers kicked off the week against ULM on Thursday night by recording ten digs and one
ace. Then on Saturday against New Orleans, she tallied 18 digs in a five set thriller and also posted two assists and two aces. She
followed up that performance on Sunday against ULL by racking up another 17 digs in just three sets and adding another ace to her
weekly total. This is Rogers' first SBC Player of the Week honor and the first for the Lady Toppers this season.
Troy Recap
• Six Lady Toppers finished the match with a .350 hitting percentage or better and were led by Lauren Stuckel who finished with a
.750 percentage. Tiffany Elmore finished the night with a team-high 14 kills, Stuckel led the team in assists with 26 and freshman
Sarah Rogers paced the team in digs with eight. In blocks, Elmore led the team with four blocks, all block assists while Jordyn
Skinner led the team in aces with three.As a team, the Lady Toppers posted 42 kills and an overall hitting percentage of .500. They
also recorded 37 assists, seven aced, 27 digs and 14 blocks. Troy finished the night with a .147 hitting percentage after recording 27
kills. The Trojans also posted 24 assists, one ace, 24 digs and four blocks.
South Alabama Recap
• In the match, the Lady Toppers posted a .449 hitting percentage after recording 42 kills and just seven attack errors. In addition
to the Lady Toppers' 42 kills, WKU posted 38 assists, four aces, 29 digs and 14 blocks. South Alabama finished the night with 25
kills, a .025 hitting percentage, 23 assists, one ace and 23 digs. The Lady Toppers were led by senior Brittany Bowen who finished
the night with ten kills and a .714 hitting percentage while Skinner led the team in kills with 12. Lauren Stuckel finished the night
with a team-high 32 assists while freshman Sarah Rogers posted nine digs to lead the team. Bowen and senior Abbie Siljendahl both recorded three blocks to lead the team.
