Bowling Green, Ky. - Three seniors - running back Tyrell Hayden, offensive lineman Cody Hughes and placekicker Zac Minturn - and sophomore defensive back Mark Santoro have been named team captains for Saturday's homecoming game against Troy.
The Hilltoppers and Trojans will kick off at 4 p.m. (CST) at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
Hayden is coming off his best performance of the season last week at North Texas as he carried seven times for 84 yards and a touchdown. His scoring run went for 50 yards. The Lexington, Ky., native is now just two yards away from 2,000 for his career.
Hughes has returned to full-time action after missing a pair of games due to injury to start conference play. A product of Bradenton, Fla., Hughes graded out at a season-best 82.5 percent against North Texas last week, delivering three pancake blocks and a pair of knockdowns.
Minturn, a Cincinnati, Ohio, native, has seen limited action in the kicking game this season, but has been WKU's onsides-kick specialist. He scored 13 points for the Hilltoppers a season ago, connecting on 2-of-3 field goals and 7-of-8 extra points.
Santoro currently sits second on the team, eighth in the Sun Belt Conference and tied for 53rd in the nation in tackling. He has posted 70 total tackles through eight games - an average of 8.8 stops per contest. He also has recorded at least eight tackles in seven games, and had double-digit stops in three staight games against Navy (14), Florida Internaitonal (12) and Louisiana-Lafayette (12). Off the field, the Greer, S.C., native has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV second team.
