BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - After finishing the season with a 24-8 overall record and a 13-4 mark in the SBC, the WKU volleyball team has captured the No. 3 seed in the 2009 Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championships.
WKU, who captured the 2008 SBC title as the No. 6 seed, will take on No. 6 seed Denver on Thursday night at 5 p.m. WKU defeated Denver 3-0 in the 2008 tournament to advance to the semifinals where they then defeated Middle Tennessee 3-0. The winner of the WKU vs. Denver match will take on the winner of the No. 2 seed Middle Tennessee vs. No. 7 seed UALR match.
The winner of the tournament will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. FIU, who completed the season with a perfect 17-0 mark in the SBC, enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed and will take on No. 8 seed North Texas on Thursday at 12 p.m. Then at 2:30 p.m., No. 4 seed New Orleans will take on No. 5 seed Arkansas State. The last match of the day will be the Middle Tennessee vs. UALR match at 7:30 p.m.
The three-day tournament will conclude on Saturday, Nov. 21 with the championship match scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. All matches will be held in Bowling Green at E.A. Diddle Arena on the campus of Western Kentucky University.
