Lady Topper Volleyball Sweeps ULL

LAFAYETTE, La. – The WKU volleyball team kept their perfect weekend alive on Sunday defeating ULL in three sets (25-15, 25-22, 25-17).  With the win the Lady Toppers improved to 19-7 this season and 8-3 in the Sun Belt while ULL falls to 8-19 overall and 2-10 in the SBC.  During the match, the Lady Toppers posted a .237 hitting percentage after recording 43 kills and just 16 errors in 114 attempts.

In set one, the Lady Toppers trailed early until eventually tying the set up at six after a serving error by Louisiana-Lafayette.  Then, the Lady Toppers scored the next three points to extend their lead to three and won the set after outscoring the Ragin’ Cajuns 16-9 the rest of the way.

WKU went ahead 2-0 in the match after winning the second set with 16 kills.  After falling behind 2-0 after two attack errors to start the set and trailing much of the set, the Lady Toppers took their first lead at 16-15 following a kill by sophomore Tiffany Elmore.  The Lady Toppers were able to hold on to the lead and won the set after an ace by freshman Sarah Rogers.

To end the match in set three, the Lady Toppers picked up another 16 kills and finished with a .256 hitting percentage.  In the set, the Lady Toppers picked up the lead early and never let Louisiana-Lafayette tie things up leading by as many as ten points.  Up 24-17, the Lady Toppers secured the win after an attack error by the Ragin’ Cajuns.

The Lady Toppers were led by Elmore in the match.  Elmore finished the day with a team-high ten kills and a .400 hitting percentage.  Sophomore Lauren Stuckel posted 33 assists to lead the team and freshman Sarah Rogers tallied 17 digs.  Senior Brittany Bowen also led the team in blocks finishing with five.

In addition to the Lady Toppers’ 43 kills, WKU racked up 38 assists, 53 digs, five aces and 12 blocks.  WKU will continue Sun Belt Conference action on Friday, Oct. 30 when they host Troy at 7 p.m.  The match will serve as the Lady Toppers’ Breast Cancer Awareness Match.
