Brian Soverns led the way for the Hilltoppers, winning the discus with a NCAA Mideast Regional qualifying distance of 170-2. With that effort, Soverns moved to fifth on the all-time WKU performers list in the event. In addition, he also finished third in the shot with a put of 50-7.50 and fifth in the hammer with a throw of 162-3.
WKU swept the men's and women's triple jump, with Jessica Delaunay taking the women's title at 39-3 and Asa Dew winning the men's title at 47-6.50. Also in the jumps, Jeremy Evans took runner-up honors with a successful clearance at 6-6.75.
Also in the throws, Matt Taitt was second in the shot with a put of 52-9.50, third in the hammer at 165-2, and fifth in the discus at 155-9. For the Lady Toppers, Sarah Lambrecht finished fourth in the hammer with a toss of 150-6, while also taking seventh in the discus at 131-7. Setting a career-best in the shot was Kara Calvert, who finished tenth at 39-2.50.
The teams travel to Denton, Texas this coming weekend to compete in the Sun Belt Conference outdoor championships at the University of North Texas.
