Bowling Green, Ky. Junior Brittany Bowen was honored on Thursday morning by being named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Third Team. The Ada, Mich. native, who holds a 3.86 GPA in chemistry, becomes only the ninth Lady Topper in school history to receive the honor and the first since Caron Blotch accomplished the feat in 2005.
"This is a huge accomplishment for Brittany because it takes into account her accomplishments on the court as well as in the classroom," head coach Travis Hudson said. "We made the decision to move her back to middle hitter this season, which is her natural position, and she has responded to that in the best way possible. She has a bright future ahead of her."
On the court, Bowen has been a force this season. Currently second on the team with 238 kills, Bowen has posted 75 total blocks, 17 digs, three assists and holds an overall .335 hitting percentage. The two-time Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List honoree has posted double-digit kills in ten matches this season and finished with a season-high 19 kills against Arizona State and is ranked seventh in the conference in hitting percentage.
Bowen and the rest of the Lady Toppers will battle Florida Atlantic Friday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. They will face Florida International on Sunday, Nov. 9 at noon before coming home for their final two matches of the regular season before heading to Miami, Fla. to take part in the Sun Belt Conference Volleyball Championships. The Lady Toppers are currently 19-9 overall this season and hold an 8-5 record in the Sun Belt Conference.
