WKU CLAIMS 13 OF LAST 22 SUN BELT TEAM TITLES
With Sun Belt Conference championships this year in men’s and women’s cross country along with volleyball, Western Kentucky University is starting the 2008-09 athletic season the same way it finished the 2007-08 campaign, winning more conference championships than any school in the nation. The Hilltoppers three titles this season are a conference high, while WKU’s 10 overall titles in 2007-08 were the highest in the nation for any school and set a Sun Belt conference all-time record.

WKU’s 10 Sun Belt regular season or tournament championships in 2007-2008 were the most by any school from one of the 11 BCS Conferences. BYU (9, Mountain West Conference), Notre Dame (8, Big East Conference), and Texas A&M (8, Big 12 Conference) were the only other schools with eight or more conference championships.

WKU has won the Sun Belt Conference’s All-Sports Trophy, the Vic Bubas Cup, four of the past seven years and has finished first or second each of the last seven years. WKU is one of only three schools in the Sun Belt’s 32-year history to claim the all-sports title five or more times.
