Clemmons, N.C. Western Kentucky University cross country athlete Janet Jesang has qualified for her second-straight NCAA Cross Country Championship after her third-place finish Saturday at the Southeast Regional at Wake Forest.
Jesang who finished seventh at the 2007 Southeast Regional meet to earn an at-large berth to nationals finished third among individuals at Tanglewood State Park to earn an automatic bid, navigating the 6,000-meter course in a time of 20:34.0. As a team, the Lady Toppers finished 13th in the field of 33, tallying 392 points. Eimear O'Brien was the number two finisher for WKU, placing 42nd in 22:05.6.
For the Hilltoppers, Patrick Jenkins led the way with a 48th-place finish of 32:06.7 on the 10,000-meter course. The WKU men finished 22nd in the team scoring.
Jesang will compete in the NCAA Championships on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind., Monday, November 24.
