Bowling Green, Ky. The WKU volleyball team was to much for ULL to handle as the Lady Toppers swept the Ragin' Cajuns (25-19, 25-12, 25-14) to move to 17-9 this season and 6-5 in the Sun Belt Conference.
In the first set, the Ragin' Cajuns and Lady Toppers battled hard until the score was tied at ten. That was when the Lady Toppers took control of the set going on a 15-9 run to end the match after superior offensive and defensive performances. The Lady Toppers picked up 18 kills in the set and committed only four errors for a .400 hitting percentage. In the set, junior Abbie Siljendahl was perfect recording four kills and zero errors for a hitting percentage of .800.
The second set was all WKU as the team posted another 12 kills while recording only two errors. In the set, senior Megan Argabright led the Lady Toppers also hitting .800 with four kills and zero errors. The Lady Toppers never trailed in the match outscoring ULL by 13 points overall.
In the final set, WKU fell behind for only the third time in the match after allowing ULL to take an early 2-0 lead. But, after tying the match at seven, the Lady Toppers never trailed again after Argabright powered up the Lady Topper offense off three aces and the Lady Toppers dominated the Ragin' Cajuns on offense and defense.
ULL's best set of the day came in set one when the Ragin' Cajuns finished with ten kills and a .214 hitting percentage. From there, ULL never hit above .100 finishing the second set with a hitting percentage of .040 and the final set with a .038 hitting percentage while WKU never hit below .370 in the entire match.
The Lady Toppers finished the match with 44 kills, a .391 hitting percentage, 43 assists, seven aces, 36 digs and 10 blocks. ULL recorded a .101 hitting percentage off 23 kills and recorded 21 assists, one ace, 26 digs and two blocks during the match.
Argabright and juniors Brittany Bowen and Siljendahl led WKU all finishing with hitting percentages over .500. Argabright finished with 11 kills, a .500 hitting percentage, three crucial aces, three digs and three blocks. Bowen tallied 11 kills and two blocks while also posting a .562 hitting percentage while Siljendahl posted nine kills, a .538 hitting percentage, one assist, five digs and three blocks. Senior Julia Noe led the Lady Toppers in assists with 36 and senior Kelly Hofmeyer led the team on defense racking up 13 digs.
The Lady Toppers will continue conference play on Friday, Oct. 31 when they travel to Mobile, Ala. to take on South Alabama at 7 p.m. CDT. Then, on Saturday the Lady Toppers will battle Troy at 1 p.m.
