Bowling Green, Ky. The WKU volleyball team showed that they are still alive and fighting in the Sun Belt Conference sweeping ULM (25-14, 25-16) to improve their season record to 15-9 overall and 3-4 in the Sun Belt Conference. With the loss, ULM falls to 1-23 overall and 0-10 in the Sun Belt Conference.
In the first set, the Lady Toppers attacked first off a kill by senior Megan Argabright and quickly stretched their lead to eight points after unbelievable offense and defense. The Lady Toppers, who finished the set with 15 kills and only five errors, held the Warhawks to seven kills and five errors for a .074 hitting percentage. Argabright led the way for WKU posting five kills in the set and only one error while senior Kelly Hofmeyer was the leader on defense recording eight kills.
WKU also dominated set two recording a .391 hitting percentage that was well ahead of ULM's hitting percentage of only .125. After getting off to a 4-0 lead the Lady Toppers outscored the Warhawks 21-16 to go ahead 2-0 in the match. Argabright also had a fantastic second set finishing with another .500 hitting percentage and recording eight kills and one block.
Finally, WKU put away the match excelling on offense, once again, to finish with their highest hitting percentage of the night at .406. After getting behind for the first time in the match, the Lady Toppers roared back tallying up another 16 kills and putting the match out of ULM's reach.
The Lady Toppers were led by Argabright and junio Brittany Bowen who both had outstanding nights offensively. Argabright tallied nine kills, one ace and one block on the night and Bowen racked up eight kills, one dig and two blocks to finish with a match-high .538 hitting percentage. Argabright finished with a .500 hitting percentage. On defense, Hofmeyer finished with 16 kills to lead WKU.
WKU will return to the court tomorrow night at 5 p.m. to battle conference foe New Orleans. Then on Sunday, the Lady Toppers will conclude their three-match home stretch with a contest against Louisiana-Lafayette at 1 p.m.
