Terre Haute, Ind. The Western Kentucky University cross country teams traveled to Indiana State University Saturday to compete in the Pre-National meet at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course site of this year's NCAA Championship.
Janet Jesang had a strong showing for the Lady Toppers, finishing third in the women's white race, clocking a 6,000-meter time of 20:22.20. So far this season, Jesang has had a pair of victories at the Old Timers Classic and Greater Louisville Classic, and now a third-place showing in arguably the most prestigious regular-season meet of the cross country season. The women did not factor into the team scoring, as the Lady Toppers finished the competition with only four runners, while five finishers are required to compute a team score.
For the Hilltoppers, Patrick Cheptoek once again led the group, finishing 89th in the men's white race, navigating the 8,000-meter course in a time of 24:48.5. The men finished 35th in the team competition.
WKU will once again host the Sun Belt Conference cross country championships November 1 at Bowling Green's Kereiakes Park. The gun will fire for the first race at 10:00am (CT).
