Bowling Green, Ky. Coming off a two match losing streak, the WKU volleyball rebounded in a big way defeating Arkansas State 3-0 (25-15, 28-26, 25-21) to improve to 14-5 overall this season and 3-2 in the Sun Belt Conference. With the loss, Arkansas State falls to 15-6, 4-3 in the Sun Belt.
After last night's loss, the Lady Toppers were nearly perfect in set one posting 18 kills and only one error en route to a .654 hitting percentage. After going down 2-0 early in the match, the Lady Toppers pounded the Red Wolves going up by as many as nine points in the match. After taking the lead 23-15, the Lady Toppers secured the win off kills by junior Abbie Siljendahl and senior Megan Argabright.
Set two was much tougher for the Lady Toppers as the Red Wolves hung with WKU all the way to the end before the Lady Toppers took the set after powerful hitting by Argabright. In the set, the Lady Toppers posted another 18 kills but committed six errors for a.286 hitting percentage.
WKU dominated set three after taking the lead at 5-4 and never looked back easily securing the win under the direction of seniors Argabright and Julia Noe.
The Lady Toppers were led by Argabright who finished with nine kills, one assist, one ace, one dig, two blocks and a .500 hitting percentage. In all, three Lady Toppers finished with a .500 hitting percentage including Noe who also finished with 35 assists and a team high ten digs.
Overall, the Lady Toppers posted 46 kills, only 10 errors, a .364 hitting percentage, 44 assists, six aces, 33 digs and six blocks. The Red Wolves finished the match with 43 kills and 20 errors for a .219 hitting percentage, 41 assists, two aces, 36 digs and five blocks.
The Lady Topper will return home for a mid-week match against Cincinnati on Tuesday night that is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. CDT.
