Seniors Chris James, Andre Lewis and Zach Thuney, and juniors Dan Cline and Jared Johnson will fulfill the role when WKU takes on West Virginia Tech in the program’s home opener Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. (CDT) at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
Cline, who hails from Centerville, Ohio, and Madison, Tenn., resident Lewis are starters on the Topper defense. The former recorded one of the team’s two tackles for loss last week at third-ranked Florida, while the latter was credited with a team-high-tying four solo tackles.
James, a native of Fayetteville, Ga., accounted for WKU’s points with a 26-yard field goal as time expired in the first half last weekend. He has now converted 10 of his last 11 tries dating back to last season.
Thuney was selected the coaches’ Offensive Player of the Week after grading out at 88 percent overall with a team-high-tying seven knockdown blocks against the Gators, while Johnson caught a nine-yard pass in the second half after starting at fullback.
