The award — given annually by the American Volleyball Coaches Association — recognizes programs that maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better. The Lady Toppers joined Denver and Arkansas State as the only three Sun Belt Conference schools to receive the honor.
“To receive the team academic award from the AVCA again this year, and maintain our 100-percent graduation rate is a tremendous accomplishment for our student-athletes,” said Lady Topper head coach Travis Hudson. “Everyone sees the success that our young ladies have had on the court over the past several years, but what they don't always see is the success they have enjoyed in the classroom.”
This marks the fifth time since 1999 that the Lady Toppers have been honored by the AVCA for their work in the classroom.
WKU — the seven-time defending Sun Belt East Division champion — will open its 2007 season on Aug. 24 when it faces Indiana at the Northern Illinois Invitational.
