Saturday's meet was the final warm-up for many athletes, as they prepare for the Sun Belt Conference championships May 11-13 in Lafayette, La.
Pacing the team was Bethuel Kiplagat, who recorded the first win of his collegiate career in the 1,500 meters, clocking a time of 3:58.08. Also in the race, Cosmas Bor was seventh in a time of 4:04.84. Also in the mid-distances, Steve Wilson was third in the 800 with a time of 1:57.62.
In the sprints, Jarvaun Lindsay led the way for the Toppers, recording a fifth-place finish of 49.49 in the 400 meters, while taking seventh in the 200 meters at 22.19 seconds.
Asa Dew was the runner-up in the triple jump, recording his second-best mark of the season at 48-8. Also in the jumps, Jeremy Evans was fourth in the high jump (6-4.75), while Wilson was eighth in the long jump (22-10). In the shot put, Brian Soverns placed fourth with a toss of 48-0.75, while Steve Moorman was eighth at 46-1.25.
For the women, Jessica Delaunay led the way with a pair of top-ten finishes, taking sixth in the long jump (18-10) and tied for seventh in the high jump (5-3). Also in the field, Courtney Wood was fifth in the hammer with a toss of 161-8, and Geri Brown was seventh in the shot with a put of 43-6.50.
Nicole Jaggers placed sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.17, while Natalie Leeper was fourth in the 5,000 meters wit ha 17:57.42 clocking. Rounding out the top-ten performances was Heather Hammond, who was fourth in the 400m intermediate hurdles in a time of 1:04.10.
A limited number of athletes will travel to Indiana University May 4 to compete in the Billy Hayes Invitational.
