WKU dropped its second game in as many days and fell to 5-3 on the year. The Boilermakers moved to 3-2 on the young season.
Purdue finished off WKU in the sixth after a three-run inning to go ahead 9-2. The inning was started off by a Jordan Comadena double and he later scored, along with Spencer Ingaldson, on a Dan Black double off the center field wall. Ryne White ended the scoring after coming home from third on a wild pitch.
The Boilermakers added three more runs in the seventh frame to make the gap 12-2. Kyle Reesing tripled to start the inning and scored on a ground out, followed by Ingaldson crossing home plate on a wild pitch. White finished off the scoring when he advanced on a sacrifice fly from John Cummings.
Purdue came out of the gate in a hurry as all nine batters came to the plate in the first inning. The Boilermakers scored three runs as White doubled in Comadena for the first run. WKU's starting pitcher Bart Carter then hit Andy Preston and walked Cummins to knock in two more runs.
Preston added his second RBI of the day in the third inning on a solo home run to right field. The Purdue lead moved to 4-0.
Jake Wells put the Toppers on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the fourth after an RBI single to right scored Scotty Colt. WKU cut the lead to 6-2 after an error by the Purdue second baseman let J.B. Paxson score from third.
In the eighth, Troy Frazier doubled to center field in the eighth to score Wade Gaynor then Scott Kaskie tripled to plate Frazier. The Toppers weren't done in the inning and scored another run on a Matt Payton ground out.
Carter (2-1) suffered the loss for WKU, going 3.2 innings, and gave up six runs. Wells went 3-for-5 on the afternoon with a RBI.
Ricky Heines (2-0) pitched six innings for the victory, striking out seven batters, and only allowing one earned run. White was a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI.
The final game of the series will begin at 1 p.m. (CST) on Sunday at Nick Denes Field.
