2007 Alabama Relays Saturday Women's Results
Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The Western Kentucky University track and field teams began competition today in the Alabama Relays at the Sam Bailey Track Complex.
Freshman Terrill McCombs led the Hilltoppers, claiming a pair of top-ten finishes. After running a personal-best time of 10.56 in the 100-meter dash to finish seventh, McCombs ran a regional-qualifying time of 21.19 in the 200 meters, good enough for eighth place. Also placing in the 100 meters was Raymond Diogo, who was eighth in 10.57.
In the quarter-mile, Gavin Smellie clocked 47.40 to place fourth. Also placing fourth was Jason Browhow, who clocked 14.45 in the 110-meter high hurdles, while Steve Wilson was sixth in the 800 in 1:53.84.
For the women, Geri Brown captured a pair of top-ten finishes, placing eighth in both the shot put and discus, with throws of 43-7.25 and 129-11, respectively.
In the 400 meters, Alecia Brown was third in 55.28, while Valerie Brown placed sixth in 56.04. The Lady Toppers also placed a pair in the 200 meters, with Kellie Morrison taking fourth in 24.25 and Temi Akojie sixth in 24.31 seconds. In the 100 meters, Carita Cole clocked the fourth-fastest time of the day at 11.89.
In the distance events, Janet Jesang was eighth in the 1,500 at 4:46.27, while Heather Colter was eighth in the steeplechase at 12:14.74.
Competition will resume at 8:00 a.m. (CDT), Sunday with with women’s hammer.
