WKU got 11 kills each from Abbie Siljendahl and Megan Argabright, and posted a .356 hitting percentage, as it improved to 22-5 overall and 11-1 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Warhawks remained winless on the season, falling to 0-24 and 0-11 in the conference.
In fact, the Lady Toppers hit better than .300 in all three games, including a .375 hitting percentage in an 18-point game-two win. WKU never trailed in that second game, jumping out to a 10-5 lead before ULM scored three straight to make it a two-point game. After a Warhawk attack error stretched the lead back out to 11-8, Kelly Hofmeyer served nine straight points as the Lady Toppers opened up a 20-8 advantage. WKU had another stretch of five unanswered points late in the game en route to its largest single-game win this season.
That performance came on the heels of an opening game in which the Lady Toppers posted a match-high 18 kills and a .400 team hitting percentage. After a slow start that saw six ties and four lead changes, a kill from Julia Noe sparked an 8-4 run that gave the Lady Toppers an 18-13 lead. ULM would get no closer than four points the rest of the game as WKU was able to open up a double-figure lead when a Brittany Bowen kill made it 27-17 as it rolled on to the 10-point victory.
The Lady Toppers trailed 14-12 midway through game three, but Emily Teegarden — who made her first career start in the contest — put down a kill to spark a 10-1 run that gave WKU 23-15 lead. ULM scored just two more points the rest of the way as Aquila Orr ended things with a kill to give the Lady Toppers the 30-17 victory.
In addition to Siljendahl and Argabright finishing in double figures, Bowen came off the bench to record nine kills, with Noe and Teegarden chipping in six kills each. Hofmeyer led the defense with 12 digs, as Noe added 11 and Lindsey Gould posted 10. Ilima Sam Fong led the Warhawks with seven kills and a match-high 13 digs.
The Lady Toppers will be off until next weekend when they open up a four-match homestand by hosting Florida International on Friday (Oct. 26) at 7 p.m. (CDT).
