The Hilltoppers (1-10-4 / 0-3-1 in conference action) were tied in the latter parts of the match for the third straight contest, but a Matt Khun goal in the 67th minute proved to be the match-winner for the Bulldogs (9-3-3 / 2-0-1 in MVC play).
WKU tied the match at two after an Ian Smith penalty kick in the 53rd minute. The goal came five minutes after Khun hit Kevin Shrout for a shot inside the bow for a goal. The two Bulldogs switched places for the match-winner as Shrout hit Khun for the score.
The first Topper goal came in the 27th minute off of an own goal by Drake. The Bulldog went up 1-0 in the 13th minute after a rebound shot by Garrett Webb off of a Pat Rickman save.
Smith led the Toppers taking two shots with both coming on goal as Benard Airo, Glen Marshall, Will Thompson, and Blake Wilson each added a shot. Rickman collected seven saves in 90 minutes of action. Drake took 17 shots, including four from Webb and three from Khun.
WKU will now turn its focus to Tuesday night when the Toppers face Berea at the WKU Soccer Complex at 6 p.m. (CDT). Before the match, Western Kentucky will honor is four seniors — Chris Davies, Travis Garner, Kevin Hitchel, and Kyle Schroeder.
