WKU (1-8-3, 0-1 in conference play) collected four shots in the first half, including a Benard Airo shot that was blocked and a Ben Backstrom strike in the 32nd minute was saved by goalkeeper Alec Dufty. The Hilltoppers also tallied three corner kicks in the first half, but was unable to convert on any of the opportunities.
Evansville’s first goal came in the 50th minute when Kieran Purcell hit a corner kick to Kipp Erskine for his fourth goal of the season. The Aces (7-4, 1-0) added its second goal 10 minutes later on an Ian McAuley tap-in. It was McAuley’s sixth goal on the year.
Jordan Beshears ended the scoring for UE in the 80th minute on his first goal of the season. Corey Elenio added seven shots and an assist for the Aces as Dufty earned the shutout, making three saves.
Airo, Backstrom, and Andy Masteller each tallied two shots and Dustin Downey also added a shot on the night.
The Hilltoppers return home to face MVC foe Missouri State at 7 p.m. (CDT) on Saturday at the WKU Soccer Complex.
