“It was a very productive preseason,” head coach David Holmes said. “The new players have adjusted well to the demands of Division I soccer. The balancing act begins on Monday with classes starting and our season starting tomorrow with four games in nine days.”
The Hilltoppers took part in two exhibition matches during the preseason. They defeated Bellarmine 1-0 on Aug. 14, then tied Georgia State 2-2 five days later at the WKU Soccer Complex.
“We fielded a new-look team against Georgia State,” Holmes said. “We started four freshmen and two sophomores, and that is the way it will probably stay. We will be a young, quick, and skillful team that should be fun to watch in 2006.”
After WKU takes on the Bruins, it will face Birmingham-Southern Sunday in the team’s first home match of the season at 1 p.m.
