“For that reason, everyone who would like to appear as an extra in next season’s TV commercials is invited to WKU Spring Football Fest.” Filming will take place rain or shine on Thursday, April 20, at L.T. Smith Stadium/Jimmy Feix Field on the WKU campus. And the production company filming the commercials would like to have at least 1,000 fans for some of the scenes that are planned. Fans are asked to wear their WKU gear, bring their red towels, and come ready to have a lot of fun.
Fans who take part in the filming will get a new custom WKU football t-shirt designed exclusively to wear in the commercials, along with a goodie bag of premiums and discount offers from several area businesses that are supporting the event.
There will be two filming sessions – one in the morning, one in the afternoon and evening. Fans should arrive at Smith Stadium at 8:30 a.m., planning to stay until 12:30 p.m., or at 6:00 p.m., planning to stay until about 9:45 p.m. Parking will be available in either parking structure near the stadium.
“We’d like nothing better than to have people from all parts of our community come out and get involved in this – parents, kids, and our student body here at Western,” said WKU head football coach David Elson. “We appreciate what our fans mean to this program, so we have some ideas about how we’re going to include them in this advertising campaign this year, and we want to thank them by showing them a good time while they’re here.”
To keep everyone entertained throughout the day, a festive atmosphere has been created. There will be food and drinks, live radio remotes in both the morning and afternoon, a DJ will be playing music from 4:00-10:00 p.m., an opportunity to meet the 2006 WKU Football team, Big Red will make several appearances, inflatables for the kids, volleyball, punt pass and kick activities, and large tents with tables and chairs for relaxing will be set up for the entire day and night.
According to Selig, fans will be doing more than just sitting in the stands to be filmed. “A little running, some working out type stuff with the football players,” he said, without revealing details. “If we can get 500 or more people out here for the morning, and another 500 to 750 or more for the late afternoon and evening, everyone will really enjoy themselves,” Selig said. “And we’re going to have an awesome TV advertising campaign where they can see themselves in our commercials throughout this coming football season.”
The finished commercials will be aired on area broadcast and cable television to promote season and single-game ticket sales for the Hilltoppers’ 2006 gridiron campaign.
