Richman — who will work with tight ends — replaces Eric Ravellette, who was named the recruiting coordinator at Southeast Missouri, on the Hilltoppers’ staff.
He comes to the Hill from Denison (Ohio), where he was the Big Red’s defensive line coach last fall. Richman also was in charge of DU’s kickoff and extra-point block schemes as well as long snappers, in addition to coordinating video exchange. His duties with the Big Red off the field included recruiting and monitoring academics.
In 2004, Richman was the running backs and tight ends coach at Reedley (Calif.) Community College, helping lead the Tigers to the Northern California Football Alliance championship as well as a victory in the Producers Dairy Bowl. In addition to his on-field duties, Richman was the video and study hall coordinator for RCC, and he was also involved with recruiting and fund raising.
Richman’s starting tight end earned first-team all-league honors following the season.
He spent the previous two years as a graduate assistant at Eastern Kentucky, serving one season as the tight ends coach before shifting responsibilities to the defensive line while also working with the Colonels’ specials teams units. Richman assisted with recruiting and academic support at EKU, and he also helped run summer football camps.
In his two years with the Colonels, they posted a 15-9 mark, which included winning 10 of 14 Ohio Valley Conference contests.
Richman earned his degree in physical education from Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 2002. He lettered one season for the Pointers before serving as a student assistant in his final year at UWSP. Richman started his collegiate career at Coe (Iowa) College, while he was a two-year letterwinner at Sheboygan (Wis.) High School.
“We are excited to have coach Richman join the Hilltopper football family,” Elson said. “I’m looking forward to the contribution he will make to our offense and the tight end position.”
He joins a staff at WKU that enters the 2006 campaign with a streak of 10 consecutive winning seasons.
