The Hilltoppers’ record improved to 12-7 on the year as the Commodores dropped to 17-8 on the season.
Ransdell clinched the game in the eighth inning when he doubled down the left field line to score Scriven and put WKU ahead 6-4.
WKU used a four-run fourth inning to take its first lead in the ballgame after Brandon Embry was hit by a pitch to score Casey Hamilton. Josh Rodgers hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Jordan Newton and Ransdell added a fielder’s choice to score Dennis Winn to make the WKU lead 4-2.
The Toppers added a run in the fifth when Hamilton singled home Scotty Colt to push the score to 5-2.
A two-run homer by Matt Meingasner cut the WKU lead to one run in the seventh inning.
Vanderbilt scored the first run of the ballgame after Parker Hanks singled to score Ryan Flaherty.
Evan Teague (1-0) earned the victory, pitching three innings in relief and only giving up one hit and a run. Bryan Rider went 2.2 innings, while only giving up a hit to earn his first save of the season.
Ransdell added two RBI for the Toppers, Hamilton singled twice and drove in a run, while Colt scored twice.
Cameron Betourne (0-1) took the loss after giving up four runs in 3.1 innings. Flaherty, Shea Robin, and Meingasner each collected two hits on the game.
WKU will travel to Little Rock, Ark., to take on Arkansas-Little Rock for a three-game series starting Friday at 6 p.m. (CST).
