“As we move further into this new year, every move our program makes will be geared towards becoming a better team,” Holmes said. “The first significant step in 2006 is the hiring of coach Helliwell. A teacher and student of the game, Sean will be joining us at just the right time. I am very enthusiastic about the future of our program.”
A 1995 graduate of Southern Indiana, Helliwell played four seasons from 1991-94 and was team captain his final three years. Helliwell, the head boy’s soccer coach at Greenwood High School since 1996, compiled a 155-56-17 record. During his tenure at GHS, the Gators won nine district championships, four regional titles, and two sectional championships. He twice led GHS to the state tournament, finishing runner-up in 2004.
He has also served as the Director of Coaching and Player Development for the SKY Futbol Club.
“I look forward to working closely with Sean to get the best out of a promising young team,” Holmes added. “Our 2006-07 squad will be heavy with young talent, as two-thirds of the squad will be sophomores and freshmen.”
