Gideon becomes the fourth different Lady Topper in the last six weeks to win the award, joining Caron Blotch (Sept. 12), Megan Argabright (Sept. 26) and Crystal Towler (Oct. 3).
In a pair of Lady Topper sweeps over the weekend, Gideon led the Lady Toppers with 26 kills. She averaged a team-best 4.33 kills per game on the weekend, while hitting a team-high .537. Friday night against Denver, Gideon finished with 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Then, less than 24 hours later, she came back to post a match-high 16 kills and a .560 attack percentage in a victory over North Texas. Gideon enters play this week having posted double-figure kills in five straight matches and seven of the last eight outings.
The Lady Toppers are currently 21-2 on the season and lead the Sun Belt Conference East Division with a perfect 7-0 record. Western returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 17), hosting IUPUI at 7 p.m. (CDT) in E.A. Diddle Arena.
