Perez, a product of Houston, Texas, is entering his second year at Odessa (Texas) College. In 2004, he hit .404 with 16 doubles, seven home runs and 55 RBI. The 5-11, 215-pound righthander will give the Hilltoppers some added power in the middle of the lineup.
“Frankie is a solid first-base prospect for our ball club,” said Murrie. “We saw him play last spring, and he displayed some impressive offensive skills. When we saw him play this fall, it only reinforced our feelings about what he can do for our program.”
Colt — a 6-1, 180-pound righthander — is heading into his second season at Iowa Western Community College. The Sioux City, Iowa, native hit .306 with seven home runs, seven doubles and 34 RBI in his first year with the Reivers. He followed that with a .304 average this fall to go along with a team-leading five triples and three home runs. During his prep career at Sioux City West High School, Colt was a three-time all-conference selection, while also earning all-state and all-district honors.
“Scottie is a player that we feel can step in at third base right away since we predict Tim Grogan will be a high draft pick this June,“ said Murrie. “His experience and talent will allow him to be a heart-of-the-order hitter and a fine defensive player.”
Western is coming off a 35-28 season which saw it win the first Sun Belt Conference Tournament title in school history, and make its first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1980.
