Smith, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound outside linebacker from Stanford, Ky., transfers to the Hill from Missouri. A redshirt sophomore, he has three years of eligibility remaining.
He played in all 12 Tiger contests in 2002, finishing with 17 total tackles as Mizzou earned five victories while dropping three seven-point decisions to teams ranked in the top 25. During his redshirt season, Smith was named the most improved linebacker on the scout team.
Smith prepped at Lincoln County High School, where he was twice selected all-state and was named all-district on three occasions. He posted 115 stops, including 15 behind the line of scrimmage and seven sacks, as a senior in 2000. Smith recorded 138 tackles with 29 for loss including 18 sacks his junior season, also rushing for 308 yards on 17 carries. He had 27 catches in his career for 625 yards, and he returned a kick 85 yards for a score in ’99.
