Q: Hey coach, I keep hearing and reading that we are hurting at the QB spot. A year ago we got a kid out of Lakeland, Fl that Played for Lake Gibson High. I saw this kid play in High School and he destroyed CCC running and throwing. I know he came up last season and was the backup. What happened to him? Nobody is talking about him, I didn't hear anything about him during spring workouts. Who has the edge at QB? -- Submitted by Eleanor Dinks, Bradenton, Fla.
Coach Elson: Alex Dukes is the young man that you are refferring to. Alex had back surgery this offseason and was forced to miss all of spring practice. His rehab is going well, and we expect for him to compete for the job when August 1st rolls around. Thanks for your interest! I look forward to seeing you in Smith Stadium this fall!
Q: What do you think your chances will be to win against a preseason #5 team like the Auburn Tigers? -- Submitted by Steve Dorsett, Albertville Ala.
Coach Elson: It is obviously a tall order, all I know is that our team will come ready to play for 60 minutes and will leave everything they have on the field!
Q: How much of an impact do you think that robert waller could make on the hilltopper football team this year? -- Submitted by Todd McEuen, Corydon, Ky.
Coach Elson: Until we get to camp and put the pads on, it is very hard to tell. History does tell us that skill players have a better chance to contribute early than lineman. If Robert comes in in great physical shape then he will have as good a chance as any. Thanks for your interest! See you at Smith Stadium this fall!
Q: I am interested in when will your hall of fame or might i say your wall of all Americans be updated? So many visitors have noted that some of your top players past and present have not been added to the football (WKU) tradition. Your #1 wku fan as always. -- Submitted by Cynthia Sippio, Poinciana, Fla.
Coach Elson: Rest assured we are working on getting our All-American wall updated and plan to have it ready for the fall! Hope to see you back at a game!
Q: What will it take for the team to keep it close or maybe even pull off un upset this year against a high quality D-I team like the Auburn Tigers in Auburn? Does the team have the talent to keep it close? -- Submitted by Brett Riley, Lexington, Ky.
Coach Elson: With a team as talented as Auburn, we will obviously need to play error free football and be sure to take advantage of all of their mistakes. I believe we have the talent to play with anyone in the country. The issue is depth. With 22 more scholarships most I-A teams have more depth than the typical I-AA team, which can takes its toll when the fourth quarter rolls around. All I can tell you is we will leave it all out on the field!
Thanks for your interest!
