Bowling Green, Ky. - For the second time this season, Western Kentucky pitcher Matt Wilhite (Sr., Franklin, Ky.) has been named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week after getting two wins in the weekend series with Arkansas-Little Rock to improve to 7-2 on the season. He earned the honor earlier this season after Western's opening weekend.
Wilhite set two career bests on Friday when he pitched seven innings in relief and struck out nine batters in the Hilltoppers 7-6 win in 13 innings. On Sunday, the reliever pitched 1.2 innings of perfect baseball in WKU's 3-2 win in 10 innings. Wilhite lowered his ERA 32 points on the weekend to 2.02. He allowed two runs earlier in the week against Vanderbilt in three innings of work.
Western travels to Kentucky on Tuesday before hosting Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday in the finale home game of the season at 6 p.m. (CST).
