Bowling Green, Ky. - The Western Kentucky men's soccer team opened its regular season with a 4-0 shutout of visiting Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday night at the Creason Soccer Complex.
Western (1-0-0) controlled the ball for most of the first half but led only 1-0 at halftime. Brandon Bailey (Fr., Coppell, Texas) opened the scoring for the Hilltoppers with a goal in the 15th minute of the first half off a pass from Steven Medlock (Fr., Germantown, Tenn.)
Western took control the second half with three unanswered scores. Kyle Longo (Jr., St. Louis, Mo.) scored off a corner kick from Justin Goodman (So., Russelville, Ark.) in the 52nd minute of the game. Longo's goal was followed by Jacob Isenhour's (Fr., Lexington, Ky.) goal in the 75th minute. Jason Dugas (Fr., Southlake, TX) closed out the scoring with a goal in the 88th minute off a feed from Richard Mupfudze (Fr., Bulawayo, Zimbabwe).
For the game, Western outshot Kentucky Wesleyan (0-1-0) 40-2. Hiltopper goalie Daryl Sattler (Jr., Cordova, Tenn.) (1-0-0) earned the victory in goal.
Western continues its regular season with a home match against Belmont at the Creason Soccer Complex in Bowling Green. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
