Tallahassee, Fla. - Many personal bests were set April 14 at the Florida State Triangular.
For the men, Jonathon Brown (So., Morganfield, Ky.), ran a new personal best on his way to a collegiate first place in the 100-meters with a time of 10.47. Brown was also the top collegiate finisher in the 200-meters in a time of 21.04. Enda Grandfield (So., Kerry, Ireland) finished second in the 3,000-meters in 8:33.13 and third in the 1,500-meters in 3:57.60, missing a personal best by less the two hundredths of a second. Chris Young (So., Scottsville, Ky.) faired well in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, where he finished 3rd in 6:12.29. Justin Miller (Jr., Campbellsville, Ky.) finished fifth in the 400-meter dash in a personal best time of 47.60. Matt McClure (So., Louisville, Ky.) set new personal bests in the 110-meter hurdles (15.11) and the 400-meter hurdles (54.33). Raigo Toompuu (Fr., Haapsalu, Estonia) set a new season best of 156-8 in the discus, good enough for second place. Toompuu also took second in the shot put with a toss of 52-11.
The highlight of the day was Eigo Siimu's (Fr., Viljandi, Estonia) school record breaking toss of 197-10 in the javelin, where he was the top collegiate finisher, second overall. Siimu also tied his previous best in the high jump at 6-9 and missed his best in the pole vault by just 2 inches.
On the women's side, Misty Hair (So., Liberty, Ky.) had a career day. Hair had personal bests in the shot put (38-11.50), discus (127-0) and the hammer (130-5). Aimee Wellerding (Fr., Louisville, Ky.) finished third in the 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 57.76. Coach Michelle Murphy Scott finished second, just ahead of freshman Jill Shannon (Jordantown, Northern Ireland), in the 1,500-meter run. The 4x400-meter relay team finished three seconds faster than their previous best for the season. Christy Green (Jr., Naperville, Ill.) tied her previous season best in the pole vault with a jump of 9-0.25. Hanna Lee (Sr., Cookeville, Tenn.) threw for a season personal best in the javelin with a fourth place toss of 100-3, just behind teammate Holly Wilder (Sr., London, Ky.), who took third with a throw of 101-8.
The teams split next weekend with athletes competing at the Commodore Invitational, Mt. Sac Relays and Kansas Relays.
