Boca Raton, Fla. - Jessica Willard (Sr., Louisville, Ky.) recorded a career-high 23 kills while Natalie Furry (Sr., Normal, Ill.) added 21 as the Western Kentucky volleyball team defeated Florida Atlantic 3-1 on Saturday. It was the fourth straight win for the Lady Toppers.
Western (7-3) dominated game one, finishing with a .500 attack percentage, to win 30-13. WKU recorded 19 kills in the opener on 34 swings while committing only two errors. The Lady Toppers also held FAU (2-7) to eight kills in the opening game.
The Owls rebounded in game two, winning a close 21-29 decision. However, WKU regrouped to take the match with a 30-17 win in game three and a 30-21 victory in game four. In all, Western hit .294 for the match, while holding FAU to a .075 attack percentage. Tara Thomas (Sr., Louisville, Ky.) recorded her second double-double in as many days, finishing with 11 kills and 21 digs. Cynda Derbort (So., Maroa, Ill.) finished with a career-high 10 kills for Western. Setter Sara Noe (Jr., Louisville, Ky.) finished the match with a season-high 60 assists and 11 digs.
The Lady Toppers conclude their three-match road trip Tuesday with a 6 p.m. (CDT) match at Cincinnati. Western will return home next Friday (Sept. 28) for a 7 p.m. match against Sun Belt Conference opponent North Texas.
