Bowling Green, Ky. - In the annual Old Timers Classic run in Bowling Green Saturday (Sept. 15), six men's and six women's teams competed, including Western Kentucky, Morehead State, Spalding (Louisville), Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee State and Campbellsville.
The men's race was won by 1992 WKU graduate Sean Dollman. Dollman was 1991 NCAA cross country champion, 1992 NCAA 10,000-meter champion, and a six-time NCAA All-American for the Hilltoppers.
The top collegiate runner of the day was Geoffrey Lagat (Middle Tennessee State) who finished just one second behind Dollman.
The top finisher for the current WKU team was Enda Grandfield (So., Kerry, Ireland) who crossed the finish line in sixth place overall. Other finishers for the Toppers were David Altmaier (So., Somerset, Ky.) 10th, Terry Goertz (So., Sernia, Ontario) 12th, Greg Threatt (Fr., Covington, Ky.) 18th, Anthony Cambron (So., Louisville, Ky.) 20th, Augustine Otieno (So., Nairobi, Kenya) 32nd, and Nick Washum (Jr., Morganfield, Ky.) 35th.
On the women's side, 1998 WKU graduate and nine-time All-Sun Belt Conference runner Christina Brown took top honors.
The top collegiate finisher for the women's race was Karen Lutes of Morehead State University.
Jill Shannon (Fr., Jordantown, Northern Ireland) finished first for this year's women's team, coming in third. Crossing the finish line just behind Shannon was Olga Cronin (Jr., Cork, Ireland) who finished fourth. Other finishers for the Lady Toppers were Bonita Paul (So., Capetown, South Africa) sixth, Cara Nichols (Fr., Bowling Green, Ky.) seventh, Terri Hennessy (Sr., Cork, Ireland) ninth, Rachel Sanford (Fr., Somerset, Ky.) 10th, Jennifer Hibbs (Sr., Owensboro, Ky.) 13th, Janette Pike (Sr., Vine Grove, Ky.) 14th, and Angela Burgett (So., Tacoma, Washington) 17th.
Both teams return to action on Sept. 22, when they travel to Nashville to compete in the Vanderbilt Invitational.
