Peoria, Ill. - The Western Kentucky men's soccer team gave up two goals in the first half and three more in the second, falling to #29 Bradley in a Missouri Valley Conference match Friday night.
The Braves (11-5-1, 6-2 MVC) got on the board first in the 19th minute as Hamid Mehreioskouei found the back of the net on a break away. Bradley made it a 2-0 advantage at halftime with a goal by Gavin Glinton in the 30th minute knocked the ball past Hilltopper goalkeeper Daryl Sattler (So., Cordova, Tenn.) off a corner kick.
Western (7-8, 3-5 MVC) was able to shut Bradley down through most of the second half, but BU added another goal in the 70th minute Cody Kother scored to make it 3-0. However, the Hilltoppers responded six minutes later when Ben Buerger (Jr., Louisville, Ky.) scored on a pass from Ron Plute (So., Coppell, Texas) to bring the Toppers back within two at 3-1.
Unfortunately for WKU, Bradley found the back of the net two more times. Luke Kreamalmeyer made it a 4-1 game with a goal in the 79th minute, and Ryan Halcrow ended the scoring when he won a foot race to a loose ball and scored on an open net in the 82nd minute to give the Braves the 5-1 win.
Western will close out the regular season Sunday when it travels to Eastern Illinois for a 1 p.m. (CST) showdown with the Panthers. The outcome of that game, coupled with results from around the MVC will determine where the Hilltoppers will play in the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament which begins Nov. 9 and 10.
