Question:
"Coach, are the Toppers doing anything to honor Coach Pickens at this year's Homecoming? He was the best guy I encountered at the University while I was there. He will be missed greatly. Thanks!"
(question asked by Bob McGarry, Louisville, Ky., WKU Class of 1987).
Coach Harbaugh:
"I am not aware of a tribute on behalf of the university. The football team has honored Coach Pickens with a "PICK" sticker on every helmet to pay tribute to his many achievements and lifelong dedication to the university."
Question:
"Coach Harbaugh, congratulations on the great season so far. You have made WKU football a true force to be reckoned with. If we do win the OVC, like I feel that we will, and make it to the playoffs, teams will crowd the line of scrimmage on us in order to stop our awesome rushing game. My question is, have you ever considered playing Bobby Sippio on offense in order to throw the ball down the field in order to keep the opposing defense honest? Go Hilltoppers!"
(question asked by Anthony Wilson, Lexington, Ky.)
Coach Harbaugh:
"An excellent point. One of the things we did last year in our recruiting class was to bring in four freshman receivers that have outstanding athletic ability. We are working very hard to get them involved in the manner of which you speak. It will be much better for us in the long run to develop our guys who have specialized in receiving. Certainly, though, when you have someone with Bobby's athletic talent he would merit consideration of your suggestion."
Question:
"I just wanted to let you know that you and your coaching staff are doing a great job. Will your recruiting efforts change going into the Gateway Conference?"
(question asked by Charles Nichols, Paris, Ky., Hilltopper football letterman & WKU Class of 1994).
Coach Harbaugh:
"I'm so happy to hear from you, Charles. I hope everything is going well for you. We remember you here from your days at Western Kentucky University. I'd like to think that playing in the Gateway Conference -- in our opinion the best I-AA league in the country -- will give us the opportunity to recruit in areas of the country that we couldn't previously get into. I think it may help us move north, with more of a concentration on the Indiana and Ohio areas. We're looking forward to seeing you at our games in the future."
