The WKU Softball Complex, home to the WKU Softball team since the 2000 season, built in conjunction with the soccer complex, was part of a $1.2 million development to create one of the finest softball facilities in the conference and region. The softball project, which begin in 1999 and was completed in just six months, involved laying the playing surface, the construction of both dugouts and a backstop, the outfield fence, bullpens and batting cages. A full-service scoreboard was added in right field in March, 2000.
The Hilltoppers made their debut at the WKU Softball Complex on February 23, 2000, with a doubleheader against Evansville, and earned their first home victory just three days later with a 4-2 defeat of in-state rival Eastern Kentucky. WKU went on to post a 16-5-1 record at the field that year.
Construction continued following the Hilltoppers' inaugural season with the creation of the concession stand and press box facilities, located behind home plate. Lights were also added, giving the squad the ability to host night games for the first time during the 2000-01 school year.
The addition of lights in time for the 2001 season allowed Hilltopper softball to host a pair of in-season tournaments, the Hilltopper Spring Fling and the Hilltopper Classic, a trend that continued in future seasons. Also thanks to the addition of lights, start times for week games were able to be moved to 5:00 PM, giving the community a better opportunity to come out and support WKU softball.
After the completion of the concession stand and press box facilities, which also includes fully-equipped restrooms, WKU installed 350 permanent chairback seats prior to the 2002 season. The facility has played host to the 2021 and 2025 Conference USA Softball Championships. In 2021, WKU claimed the crown on their home turf, securing the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. WKU also hosted the 2003 SunBelt Conference Softball Championships at the facility.
