GREENVILLE, N.C. — WKU Hilltopper Golf and redshirt senior Billy Tom Sargent are very much in contention for titles heading into the final day of East Carolina's ECU Intercollegiate.
Sargent is in second place in the field after compiling a two-round total of 142 (69-73) on Monday at the par-72, 6,755-yard Brook Valley Country Club.
That places him just two strokes behind the individual leader, Jacksonville's Michael Sakane.
As a team, WKU is in third place with a two-round total of 585 (291-294), which places them four shots behind leader Campbell (No. 42) and three shots behind second-place Jacksonville.
Both of those programs were unable to complete the second round due to darkness. Round 2 will resume at 7:30 a.m. CT Tuesday, while the final round will also begin at that time.
The Hilltoppers finished the first round atop the leaderboard with a four-shot cushion after posting a 3-over 291. Sargent led the field at that point after his 3-under 69 in the opening round, while junior Tom Bevington was tied for second following an even-par 72.
Bevington is currently tied for 12th with a 147 (72-75) total. He leads the field with nine total birdies, while Sargent is tied for second with seven.
Senior Stuart Easton (77-71) and redshirt junior Linus Lo (73-75) are both tied for 15th at 148. Sophomore Crimson Callahan is tied for 60th at 159 (82-77).
WKU leads the field as a team with 30 total birdies.
