OPELIKA, Ala. — WKU Hilltopper Golf's Tom Bevington carded a 1-over 73 in the first round of Auburn's Tiger Invitational on Sunday, tying him for 16th individually in a loaded field.
The junior Bevington is tied with or ahead of seven of the nine top-100 players in the field at the par-72, 7,289-yard Grand National on the Lake Course. He's just two strokes out of third.
Arkansas State's Joel Wendin leads at 6 under.
As a team, WKU is in 14th place following a 306 team score in a very windy opening round. The tournament features six teams in the Golfstat Top 100, as well as 11 programs in the top 120.
No. 21 Arkansas State is in first place at 283.
WKU redshirt senior Billy Tom Sargent is tied for 46th following a 77, while senior Stuart Easton and redshirt junior Linus Lo are tied for 56th at 78. Freshman Dominic Brettkelly opened with an 82.
The Hilltoppers are scheduled to tee off in Monday's second round at 8:50 a.m. CT. The final round will be played Tuesday.
