Six Golfers in Competition for Tops at Bearcat Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Hilltopper Golf will have the opportunity to put an extra player into competition this week at Cincinnati's Bearcat Invitational.

The event, which takes place Monday and Tuesday at the par-71, 7,150-yard Coldstream Country Club, allows teams to play six golfers instead of the usual five, while still counting the best four scores.

WKU is one of 11 programs participating in the tournament. Of those other 10 teams, five finished last season in the Golfstat top 75.

Teams will play 36 holes Monday beginning with a 7:45 a.m. CT shotgun start, followed by Tuesday's final round with tee times starting at 7:45 a.m.

The six golfers representing the Hilltoppers will be redshirt senior Billy Tom Sargent, senior Stuart Easton, redshirt junior Linus Lo, junior Tom Bevington, sophomore Crimson Callahan and redshirt freshman Dawson McDaniel.

Easton is making his season debut after returning to the U.S. following a stint representing his native Scotland in international competition. He had the second-best stroke average on the team last season.

WKU is coming off a tie for seventh in the Louisville Cardinals Challenge, which featured six top-50 programs. The Tops shot a three-day total of 859 (277-294-288) – less than five strokes from being one of the program's top-10 tallies in the last 30-plus years.

"I felt like the team played very good over the three days," Lo said. "The last day got really tough because it got really windy, but everyone stayed very patient. That's what matters."

Lo led WKU with a career-low 211 total in Louisville and is pacing the Hilltoppers through two events with a stroke average of 71.5.

However, all six golfers who've competed for WKU so far this season have notched a round of 70 or better, including four with a round of 69 or better.

"I feel like the team has really good potential," Lo said. "We've just got to be able to play a little more consistent. Once we get there, we'll start winning a lot of tournaments."
