BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Football concluded practice on Wednesday evening, preparing for the team's second-straight road trip on Saturday, Sept. 22, as the Hilltoppers make the trip up I-65 to Muncie, Ind. to take on Ball State.
The game, set for a 2 p.m. CT kick off, can be seen nationally on ESPN3 with Jim Barbar and Mark Herrmann on the call.
Following practice, sophomore defensive end DeAngelo Malone, fresh off a stellar performance at Louisville which included eight tackles, 1.5 for loss, and his first career interception, talked about what to expect from the Hilltopper defense on Saturday.
"We've got to stop the run," Malone said. "Their quarterback (Riley Neal) is very mobile, so if we can keep him contained, we can keep the quarterback locked down."
The Cardinals are heading into week four of the 2018 season with a 1-2 record after losing to Indiana 38-10 in Bloomington this past weekend, which included a 21-0 Hoosier advantage in the second quarter. This week in practice, the focus has been on finishing each quarter strong after racing out to 21- and 14-point leads in consecutive games before ultimately coming up short in the end.
"This week we've worked on all four quarters," Malone said. "Every period. First quarter, second quarter, third quarter, fourth quarter. Just finishing."
The Hilltoppers are still looking to get their first win of the season and avoid starting 0-4 for the first time since 2011, and senior defensive back and captain DeAndre Farris is looking to help make that happen.
"They're good at what they do" Farris said. "It's our job to focus and do better."
